Time stops
at Shamli by Ruskin Bond
Genre: fiction (novella)
Year of publication: 1996
RATING: ☆☆☆☆1/2 ( 4.5)
This novella is a true work of art and
one of the most beautiful stories I’ve read in a while. I like Bond’s style of
writing for the homeliness and serenity that he establishes in each and every
line he pens down- and this book was no exception.
The story is about a day spent by the
storyteller in the secluded hillside town of Shamli, where he meets interesting
people and finds his long lost companion. But ultimately it’s a lesson on self-discovery
and the unveiling of one’s deepest desires to be the person one always wished
to be. Equipped with mesmerizing description of the landscape and the witty
development of unique characters, this book is truly amazing.
I’ll recommend this book to everyone as
it’s bound to brighten up your day. I think every human deserves to read such
beautiful stories. The novella isn’t long- its only about 30 pages and you should
give it a read.
