A
fresh and breezy read, the book keeps its promise to interestingly convey what it preaches. Fame, brilliance and constant limelight has often left
celebrated icons awestruck and dazzled to edge forward. The book speaks of such
a man, Ronnie—an actor brimming with justified popularity and who has been going
on delivering quality content to his audience, thereby gathering immense fame
and recognition. But wealth, familial peace and residence in his safe haven have
not been able to fill a void in his heart—a void that urges him to believe that
indeed there’s something missing from his life that is puling him away from satisfaction.
He revisits a peaceful monastery located in the cradle of the lush mountains, a
place which had previously guided him in in life and had given him the necessary
motivation to kickstart his career. When Ronnie again reaches the serene destination
in the valleys, he is greeted by a master: different from the master who had
originally shed light on his path and whom he was dearly expecting. This new
master holds a surprise. He is no grown up, but just a thirteen-year-old monk.
As Ronnie is made aware of a concept called anchor of each and every human
being, which forms the basis of existence, he is given an unusual assignment
that declutters his mind of the annoying emptiness that had captured it. What
is this anchor that the young monk wants Ronnie to find? Is it a lesson for the
ones out there who are blindly running for fame and popularity without any introspection?
Written
in very simple and smooth sentences, the book does not beat around the bush,
but delves straight into important matters. It preserves the essence of a short
story by not disrupting the flow of the story with unnecessary hindrances. The author
sometimes oversimplifies the thoughts of the protagonist by distilling them
down in excess; but for an impatient reader that might be a bright side of the
book. Overall, the book serves as a quick lesson on life in general by moralizing
the story of a character like Ronnie, with whom we can all resonate in some
aspect or the other.
