Anusha Veluswamy’s poems have beauty and empathy oozing out of them, and they hold the capacity to make your eyes moist with feelings so dear. Very peacefully shrouded by a feminine touch, the poems whisper into your ears the vibrations of raw ecstasy or the shudders of naked grief. Vast and promising, her poems tend to evolve, and they take you along.
This anthology is structured
into three parts—while the first part harps on the theme of nature’s beauty and
evolution of hope, the second part deals with motherhood: the joys and pains
associated with it, and the third one talks about love, affection and
heartbreak.
In case you want
to experience the tantalizing rhythms of joy, various kinds of it, then this book
will speak to you even more. In case, you want to echo your feelings of supressed
grief and smothered feelings of congestion, this book will resonate in your
heart like never before. In all, this book will give a kaleidoscopic view of
love, sorrow, awe and other non-descriptive emotions.
For me personally,
the first section of the book was utter magnificent. It harnessed the quality
of keen observation in daily life, to instil understanding and faith in mundane,
regular objects and happenings. In this part, the poems project the poet’s own
vividness of experiences, and she doesn’t shy away from expressing herself to
the core. Buoyed by this sense of pure attention to detail, these poems rise
headstrong into the sky.
Anusha’s poems have
such proximity to life in general, that they seem closer and closer to you as
you go on reading them. She draws inspiration from everyday snippets of life,
and elaborates on the way they have made her feel. She sometimes takes you back
down her own memory lane, and sometimes she leaves the interpretations to the
readers. Using beautiful metaphors and comparisons, she makes her verses lively
and attractive. The usage of ‘free verse’ and not complying to any specific rhyming
scheme, makes the poems appear only in the light of pure expression. Equipped with
the literary splendour, this anthology of poetry therefore makes a rightful
place in my list of essential recommendations !
