What is this book all about ?
Sudha
Murty is a personality who probably doesn’t need an introduction. A teacher,
entrepreneur, author, orator and a social worker—she has her contributions in many
fields. Coming from a very humble background, and fighting against odds to be
an engineer in the male-dominated industry back then, she also parallelly took
part in social campaigns; which finally led to the birth of Infosys Foundation.
Needless
to say, her life has been extremely interesting and with her diverse and lively
experiences, she could entirely write a book based on what she’s seen in her
past years. Three Thousand Stiches gives us a glimpse of such stories from her
own life.
What is
special about these stories ?
Speckled
with her essence of simplicity and kindness, Sudha Murty has successfully
written these stories in a heart-warming, beautiful way that really makes the
readers nostalgic about the good old times. In each of these eleven short
anecdotes, the author has poured so much care and limitless compassion, that
makes anyone feel good.
What is
inside the stories ?
Well, sometimes
she talks about pursuing her engineering degree in a college where she was the
only girl student, whereas sometimes she talks about her travels around the
world and her reaction when she hears about the popularity of Bollywood in
every country she visits. At times she talks about how she stumbles upon a
rehabilitation organisation which helps aimless drinkers return back to the normal
walk of life, and sometimes about her childhood life with her grandparents
where she imbibed many of the values, morals, and goodness that enriched her.
What did
you love the most about this book ?
The lovely
way it is written. The lines are woven together affectionately, with a hint of
nostalgia every now and then. It is a walk down the memory lane of the author.
Another thing that intrigued me was the positivity in the book. The book is
written with such good vibes and optimism that it is bound to inspire the
readers.
Would you
recommend this book to others ?
Yes, definitely! This is a kind of book every serious
reader should pick up. It was an exciting journey reading this, and who doesn’t
love nice stories from elderly people! Much more important than reading the book,
are the values that you carry with you henceforth. These are ordinary tales of extraordinary
acts of kindness and wisdom, which deserves a read.
