5 steps to get into a habit of reading

5 STEPS TO GET INTO A HABIT OF READING:

In this post, I’ll share some tips how to read more books and how to get into a habit of reading.

How to read more

I really know the pains of not being able to start reading, trust me. I used to read quite a lot when I was in middle school, but in high school I got detached from this habit. Reading is an amazing experience. The people who don’t read at all don’t have an idea of what they’re missing. According to me, reading lets you live many lives at once. The stories of the characters and the situations they face- all feel vivid and you begin to empathize with them. And you learn stuff too! You learn from the characters- lines that make you cry and lines that make you go into a fit of giggles. So hear me out…if you want to start reading at this point (you really must!), these tips will help you out 😍.

1.     Know your genre of preference:  Now this is crucial. I’ve seen my friends struggling with many books at once…and at the end of the day, they are barely satisfied. My tip would be – ask yourself. Which genre do you really love? Do you like chilling thrillers or lovely romances? At most times, your movie genre preference would align with your book preference, so that’s a good way to begin. And if you really cannot find your thing, don’t stress out. After all, reading isn’t a compulsion. You have to get involved in the world of books. My next tip will tell you how.

2.     Follow book bloggers, reviewers and book tubers: There are a whole lot of people out there, for whom reading isn’t just a passion or hobby. They’ve gradually evolved themselves to turn this passion to a full-fledged career. Take their suggestions to read. Check out their ratings of popular bestsellers, get yourself to participate in the reader communities and book clubs- the key is to make this reading experience fun and enjoyable, something you’ll look forward to.

3.     Set aside a time slot for reading: Consistency is important. Make sure you set aside a specific time of the day (however short it is) to read and only read. The best slots are just before going to bed and after getting up in the morning. Even if you are a slow reader, make sure you are tuning in to that particular time of the day to read a few pages. Fiction books may demand repeated attention, but non-fiction can be picked up at leisure.

4.     Don’t try to become an avid reader overnight: To me, the goal isn’t always to finish a book. I really enjoy the whole process of delving deep into the story, and so I often read slowly. I’ll suggest you- don’t try to become those reader marathon runners. After finishing the book, you may feel the pleasure of accomplishment, but the reading experience will soon fade away and you’ll gain nothing out of it. So find your own pace and stick to it.

5.     Talk to people and suggest: If you have really liked a book, don’t shy away from letting people know. Suggest the book to the ones around you and talk with friends and family. Often there are so many fun stuff in the book to discuss with other readers, in the process of which you learn to articulate your views and respect other's opinions too. Post reviews on social platforms, on shopping sites and let yourself be known.

If you take help of these few tips, I know you will soon be able to read to your heart’s content. You are bound to discover more books, dig up more ideas and have an amazing journey with these paperbacks and hardcovers. Good day !
